I've been busy recently so I haven't been paying the attention I should do to Draw Serge but I'm about to remedy that in quite a spectacular fashion. Today's contribution ("The Evolution of Gainsbourg") comes from no other than Joann Sfar! If you're a Gainsbourg fan and a regular visitor to this blog and you don't know who Joann Sfar is then you should be ashamed!
This pic was procured for me by the brilliant Joe Decie. Merci, Joe!

"Draw Serge" at Le Truc, Birmingham - 14/10/2012
Here's some photographs from yesterday's "Draw Serge" event at Le Truc in Birmingham yesterday. It was part of the excellent Eye Candy Festival and the Birmingham Zine Fest.
Top to bottom, left to right - Dan Berry, Lizz Lunney, Den Barry, Jonathan Edwards, David Setter, Julian Kimmings, unknown, Matt "8bit" Macabre, unknown (The two unknown artists are staff from Le Truc. If anyone can send me their names I'll credit them accordingly).
Here's some more photos of the day courtesy of Felt Mistress.
A big thank you to all the artists involved and to Le Truc for hosting the event and keeping us all fed and watered all day.
Next - Draw Serge LIVE ON ICE!(not really).

"Draw Serge" at Le Truc, Birmingham
As part of the Eye Candy Festival and the Birmingham Zine Fest in Birmingham this weekend. I'll be hosting a live "Draw Serge" event at Le Truc. 9 panels will be illustrated by a variety of artists (all former "Draw Serge" alumni" - including Den Berry, Matt Macabre, Joe List, David Setter, Julian Kimmings and others) on Sunday October 14th starting at 12pm. Come along - watch us draw, listen to Serge and enjoy the Le Truc dedicated Art menu.
If you're about on the Saturday I'll also be taking part in the "Make It Then Tell Everybody" event alongside Warwick Johnson-Cadwell, Luke Pearson, Philippa Rice, Kristyna Baczynski, Joe List, Lizz Lunney, Marc Ellerby and someone called Felt Mistress.
Serge Baeken
Here's a great Serge by a Serge - Serge Baeken. Serge is a cartoonist and illustrator from Antwerp. "I drew this Serge after seeing a home video of Jane Birkin that was broadcasted on Arte. The portrait was published to illustrate an article on Gainsbourg in Zone5300, a Dutch comic and cult magazine."

Graeme McNee
Graeme McNee is an illustrator. Born in South Africa, raised in Scotland and now living in Japan (lucky Graeme!) he's been a Serge fan since he was a child as his Mum used to play "Bonnie & Clyde" while doing the housework. Graeme also draws "Minimal Comics" - keep an eye out for the Melody Nelson-themed strip.

Marc Stipling
Today's Serge comes courtesy of Marc Stipling, the person who cuts my hair. That's right, I won't let anyone near these locks who isn't capable of drawing Monsieur Gainsbourg. I think that's a good rule to live your life by.

John Fisher
John Fisher is (in his own words) an "amateur artist" from the North West of England. He's really captured Gainsbourg! I was sent this Serge back in October but only found it in my spam folder this week! Sorry for the delay in bringing this one to you. John's blog can be found HERE.
