A great close-up of the great Gainsbourg from Madrid-based illustrator (Madrid must be teeming with incredible illustrators!) Milan Rubio. Milan has a blog, a Flickr site and another blog where he sketches classic movies. What a brilliant idea!

Here's Jane & Serge from Mina Estevez. Mina featured the Draw Serge blog on the excellent Hint Blog last week which resulted in hundreds of new visitors. Thanks, Mina!

Rue de Verneuil

Last week, whilst in Paris, I managed to visit Rue de Verneuil, Serge's Paris home. A very quiet sedate street filled with antique shops until you reach the end where you're confronted with a wall of graffiti dedicated (apart from the odd random tag) to Monsieur Gainsbourg. It's very easy to imagine Serge wandering back up that street, Gitane in hand, after a night out. Just behind that wall is the statue "L'Homme A Tete De Chou" as featured on the cover of the album of the same name.

I recognise the Johann Sfar drawing (top left) but if anyone can credit any of the other pieces I'd be most grateful.

Charnier Corey

Toru Fukuda

Oh, imagine how excited I was when this arrived in my inbox. Toru Fukuda is one of my favourite contemporary illustrators. In my imagination this is the title page of an animated Serge Gainsbourg cartoon from the late 60s/early 70s a la Mr Rossi. If only! Toru is a Tokyo based illustrator (oh, how I'd love to put that in my bio!) with a website full of cartoony gold and a Flickr site to match. Domo arigato gozaimasu, Fukuda-san!
